The Thailand Cultural Centre was established in order to celebrate H.M. the King’s 60th Year Anniversary in 1987. The Thai Government was responsible for construction, public utilities, and implementation of the budget, while the Japanese Government contributed a generous construction budget in an amount of 638 million baht. On October 9, 1987 H.M. the King Bhumibol Adulyadej graciously presided over the grand opening ceremony of the Thailand Culture Centre.  Since then the Centre has become a government organization that plays an important role in promoting national arts and culture.

The Thailand Cultural Centre is under the supervision of the Office of the National Culture Commission, the Ministry of Culture.

The Thailand Cultural Centre consists of:

  1. Main Hall
  2. Small Hall
  3. Amphitheatre
  4. Multipurpose Area

1. Main Hall

The Main Hall is equipped with 2,000 seats. The auditorium was designed with special emphasis on acoustic quality. It is flexible for all types of performances as well as international conferences

Equipment

The Main Hall stage is equipped with hand-operated and motorized curtains, tabs, borders, and a system of sound reflecting panels for the concert shell.

Facilities

Other facilities include reception and waiting areas, ticketing and sales counters, a rehearsal room, and seven dressing rooms of various sizes.

2. Small Hall

A 2,000 square metres multi-function hall designed for maximum flexibility.  Both the stage and audience seating may be arranged in several configurations for drama and recitals, it can also be removed entirely for exhibitions and banquets.  Wireless transmission equipment also enables this hall to be used in multi-lingual presentations.

Seating

Main seating is set in the form of a roll-back stand which extends in two stages of 140 seats or 240 seats.  With additional seating, the capacity of this hall is approximately 500 seats.

 

Proscenium

The fixed proscenium size is 12.00 x 6.00 metres, and 6.00 metres in depth.

 

Equipment

The Small Hall is well equipped with lighting, sound and projection equipment similar to and interchangeable with the Main Hall.

Facilities

This hall has large-scale catering capability and is equipped with furniture and equipment for receptions and banquets.  Seven dressing rooms of various sizes are provided in this hall.

 

3. Amphitheatre

The Amphitheatre is situated at the back of the Small Hall. It serves as a presentation platform for various kinds of performing arts, such as contemporary music and local folk performances.  It has 1,000 seating capacity, plus the provision of a performers’ corner in the Small Hall which serves as a dressing room.

4. Multipurpose Area

A Multipurpose Area is located mid-way between the Small and Main Halls. The space is for artistic and cultural activities and presentations, with its higher and lower floor levels suitable for such purposes.

Changing Exhibition Hall

The Changing Exhibition Hall is located on the 1st floor of the Thailand Cultural Centre Building. This hall serves periodic artistic and cultural-oriented exhibitions on designated topics, which are usually organized by co-operation among people of similar interests.
